Messi and the transfers that have recently arrived in the Miami team, seem to bring the ups and downs. From underdogs and last place in the league, Miami won the Leagues Cup and is on course to impress again.

Just seven games after joining Inter Miami, Lionel Messi has already brought a trophy to Inter Miami.

Inter Miami, in last place in the MLS Eastern Conference which has been temporarily suspended until the Leagues Cup is completed, won the first trophy in the club's history by beating Nashville SC on penalties.

With the final score tied at 1-1 after regular time, the penalty shootout went 11 rounds, with Drake Callender saving an effort from opposing goalkeeper Elliott Pico to seal the victory.

Messi scored a stunning goal from the line in the first half, completing an impressive 10-goal run in the Leagues Cup, and then converted his penalty in the penalty shootout.

The Argentinian has scored in every Leagues Cup match, including both group stage matches, as well as all five knockout matches.

Nashville gave a great effort throughout the game, but couldn't get past the outstanding Calender, either in regulation time or in penalty kicks.

The trophy is the 44th of Messi's illustrious career, making him the most decorated player in the history of the sport. His performances in this tournament will give him and Inter Miami the opportunity to do more next year with qualification for the CONCACAF Champions Cup in 2024.
